Nola, the bus…

Hi everyone!

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve written, as we have just recently gained momentum in our quest to bring as much attention as possible to this project, and hence the St. Bernard Project. As you may have noticed, the ride has been backed up yet again, with a start date of Monday, October 19, and an end-of-ride arrival in Chalmette, LA on November 7. The primary reason for the delay is to accommodate a larger film crew. In my search for a solution to our new transportation and housing needs, I fell upon the idea of converting an old school bus to serve as our wheels, our home, and a 35-foot billboard proclaiming who we are, and what we’re doing. Everyone I know loves the idea, and my mother quickly christened the bus “Nola”. The film production crew, Ball of Clay, is connected with the Art Institute of Tampa, and I hear many of the students there are excited to be part of the conversion. The photo you see here is of Nola before she gets a fresh coat of white paint. In about two weeks, she will have a new home with To Bring Us Home, and the creative talent and energy of all involved will be brought to bear in turning our pumpkin into a magical carriage fit to represent the city she serves. For three weeks, Nola will be our home on the road between Shreveport and Chalmette, and we believe she will draw much attention to our cause. We hope to have everyone our crew encounters along the way sign the side of the bus, the names a lasting record of just a few who love New Orleans. Nola is really a kick to drive, a 1990 GMC Bluebird with a big gas engine that breathes fire. I know she will bring a new, unique element to the project, and we are all very happy to call her part of the family!
